RELIGION - A WORD FROM LATIN
MEANS TO TIE, TO BIND, TO ENSLAVE

ATHEISM - A WORD THAT MEANS WITHOUT GOD

Begin with the first breath of a child, any child, me, you. The mind is clear of ties - no binds - just a clear open mind. Ties of the mind are placed on you and me as we develop. Religious indoctrination is subtle and pervasive. Christians insist that a newborn is evil and cannot be saved without help of the supernatural - a thing created above and beyond the natural world.

Why would a natural being - a newborn - not be good enough for the natural world? And how could something outside the natural world save it? In many subtle and not so subtle ways you and I are told we are no good.

How can we get back to our original status of freedom from religion - free of an other-world man who dominates and enslaves us? I don't know the answer to that. I have only the words and testimony of people who live with that freedom to encourage me.

But It is not enough to have 'faith' in words of others. That could engender the same mistrust in Atheism as I have in religious beliefs. I have to figure it out for myself. Stand alone? Alone.

I must gather all the evidence my brain can assimilate through observation, touch, smell, and think for myself: Can I expect a supernatural person, someone outside the real natural world, to control my life here and now? Do I want someone to control my life?

When I look around me there is no evidence of magic. Oh, there are lots of things I don't understand, yet governed by natural laws - not some man in the sky. I breathe on my own. Is there any evidence that I cannot think on my own - think for myself? That's heady stuff. And scary too.

An Atheist is not against anything. 'A' means free of theism. Freedom from religion. Free from bondage. Free from enslavement. WOW! Way to go!
